Yes both Roman and Greek statues, buildings, temples etc where colored. However as one can imagine they did not posses modern paint that withstand the weather therefore only the most prestigious statues and buildings where painted regularly as even just a week or two of weather was enough to fade away their paint.

@diavoloblak @butwhi @seniorderp so the statue is called "Augustus of Primaporta" and it was indeed colored at the time it was made. It was found in Augustus' home and was apparently a sponsor of the Senate to honor him over the victory of the Parthian King and symbols the return of the "Battle Sign" (The Staff/Scepter) that was lost by Crassus when he reigned in the East (Triumvirat *cough*). The "fallen" soldiers to the right and left are said to be symboling the other defeated folks under Augustus such as the Celtic and Germanic tribes. The people on the top are not "Angels" but the woman with the wings is probably the Godess Diana (Godess of Hunting, Moon and guardian of woman and children) Other than that it probably indicates Augustus status as a "Divine Ruler". Augustus was considered divine because of the "divining" of Caesar after his death. That way Augustus, as his (adpotive) son could call himself the direct descendant of a god and therefore prove his divine status. (1/2)
